All three, the Mayans, the Incans, and the Aztecs enjoyed a fermented corn beer called Chicha. Many archeologists believe that the first purpose of corn in the Western Hemisphere was not for eating, but for the making of beer. Only when the husks developed in size did the people started eating them. Another favorite drink of the Maya was Balche which was made from the bark of a tree with the same name. The Rabinal Achi states that the Ancient Mayans fermented many kinds of fruits to make 12 types of alcoholic beverages for rituals and feasts.
