Approximately 6,000,000 people speak an ethnic language in Mexico. Almost a quarter of these speak Nahuatl, and Nahuatl is spoken in 15 different states. The second most common language is Mayan and it is spoke by 14% of the indigenous population. Mostly, it is spoken in the Yucatan and Chiapas. Zapoteco, which is spoken in Oaxaca, is third with 7% of the indigenous language users. This is followed by Mixteco, Purepechas (Michoacan), Huicholes, Cora (Jalisco and Nayarit), the Tamahumaras (Chihuahua), the Yaquis, Mayos, and the fourteen villages with less than a thousand people.
